About Department

Department of Geography traces its origin in 1948 to carry out undergraduate courses. Post graduation was introduced in 1970.Since then department of geography has been imparting quality teaching and research activities. It is considered as one of the state's premier centres for post graduation and research work. The main thrust area of the department is in the field of Population geography, Urban geography, Environmental geography, Geo morphology and Regional planning. Eminent geographers of the past and present have contributed significantly in these areas of specialisation.The department also has a geographical research group to intensify research and to develop observational skills in geography. The department library contains one of the richest collections of books and journals. The department has a fully equipped cartography lab, photostat unit, printer and power point presentation system. By virtue of it's reputation and facilities, the department has been attracting students from far off places and many of them succeeding in civil services, NET, JRF and higher education services.p>

Since the very beginning our department is committed to impart high quality education to shape the future of the students. We have worked hard to establish our acclaimed department among the top echelons of academic world. We wish to provide education that leads to comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of geography and to produce geographers, those who can work within the interdisciplinary work of geography and applied fields. At the same time we are also aware about emerging human concern of global warming, climatic changes, pandemics and it's impact on economy, society and the human well being in our research and teaching. To conclude, we will try our best to reorient the education system towards meeting the needs of the 21st century by achieving the twin objectives of inclusion and excellence as per new education policy.
