Tilak Dhari Postgraduate College, Jaunpur is one of the premier institutions not only in Uttar Pradesh but also in India. The college was originally founded as an English Middle School in 1914 by Thakur Tilak Dhari Singh who was the first graduate of his community. It was recognized as Kshatriya High School in 1916. It became an Intermediate College in 1940. It acquired the status of a Degree College in 1947 in affiliation to Agra University. With the establishment of Gorakhpur University in 1956, its affiliation was shifted to Gorakhpur University. It is presently affiliated to Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur since 1987 onwards. It has about 200 well qualified teachers. Almost all of them are Ph.Ds.
Introduced under the self-finance scheme in the Headship of Late Dr. Shanti Singh. The Doctoral Programme was also introduced in the year 2000. Fourteen (14) Research Scholars were awarded Ph.D. Degrees under the supervision of Prof. Arun Kumar Singh and 10 research scholars were awarded Ph.D. Degrees under the supervision of Prof. Rudra Narayan Ojha. One research scholar has recently submitted his Thesis under the supervision of Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh, Associate Professor of the Department. Besides, 10 research scholars are pursuing research in the Department. The Department at present has five faculty positions, of which Prof. Arun Kumar Singh is appointed as Principal in Raja Harpal Singh Post Graduate College, Singramau, Jaunpur, second Professor Rudra Narayan Ojha and third Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh, Associate Professor are presently working in the institution whereas two Assistant Professors (Dr. Deepshikha Singh and Dr. Neha Singh) are working under self-finance scheme.
Our students are working in multinational companies, some have chosen higher studies in economics. The list of its distinguished alumni include Dr. Durgesh Chandra Pathak, Assistant Professor in BITS, Hyderabad, Dr. Neetu Singh, Assistant Professor, Nariniketan Degree College, Lucknow and Dr. Paras Nath Maurya, Professor, Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi and several others.
